Pura Luhur Uluwatu is one of Bali’s important sea temples, dramatically positioned on a steep limestone cliff about 70 metres above the Indian Ocean. The temple is traditionally associated with the 11th-century Hindu priest Mpu Kuturan, who is credited in Balinese tradition with helping shape the island’s temple system. The site was later expanded and developed over time; an exact original construction year is not firmly established.
